Hi, I am Dawei Huang (he/him)!
AMFT #163587

I am your compassionate and culturally responsive therapist who knows what it feels like to live across cultures.

Youths, Adults, Family  English | Mandarin | Cantonese       Fee: $175/$205

Navigating different cultures, family expectations, and life changes can leave you feeling pulled in several directions. You may be finding your place in a new environment, working through relationship concerns, or adjusting to changes that come with getting older. Therapy offers space to understand your experiences, clarify what matters to you, and find a way forward that feels authentic.

I work with young adults, adults, and older adults. I offer sessions in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, with particular interest in supporting Chinese-speaking clients navigating personal needs, family expectations, and cultural differences.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect for your cultural background, relationships, and individual needs.

About Me

Living across cultures and navigating life in more than one language have shaped how I connect with others. I understand how easily meaning can get lost and how painful it can feel to be misunderstood. These experiences remind me to ask rather than assume and to stay curious about the person in front of me.

In our work together, there is room for the different parts of your identity, including the values you grew up with, the expectations you carry, and the life you want to build. You can bring uncertainty, conflicting feelings, and questions that do not yet have clear answers.

Who I Work With

I have extensive experience working with children and families, so I am basically open to working with anyone, mostly young adults, adults, older adults, and families. Of course, anyone who is in the US adjusting to the culture and life here has a special place in my heart.

My Specialties

  • Life transitions: Finding direction as roles, relationships, and circumstances change.

  • Cultural adjustment and identity: Exploring belonging, personal values, and life across cultures.

  • Relationship concerns: Understanding your needs, communication patterns, and connections with others.

  • Family expectations: Making space for your own needs while exploring cultural and family responsibilities.

  • Aging and emotional well-being: Processing changing roles, relationships, and priorities in later life.

My Approach

I take a person-centered approach, which means your experiences, priorities, and pace guide our work. I draw on cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based strategies to help you explore connections between your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Together, we can notice patterns, consider new perspectives, and identify practical changes to try in everyday life. I welcome an interactive process where you can ask for my perspective, share your own, and tell me what feels helpful. Your feedback matters.

Beyond the therapy room

You’ll probably find me walking on my treadmill, researching folding bikes, polishing my motorcycle, or browsing Facebook Marketplace for interesting finds. If I weren’t a therapist, I would be a food content creator, exploring restaurants and sharing favorite dishes and hidden gems.
